Myanmar is enduring one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world today. Since the 2021 military coup, escalating civil conflict, brutal repression, devastating natural disasters—including a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake in March 2025—and a collapsing economy have pushed the country to the brink.
According to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), Myanmar now ranks as the fifth worst hunger hot spot globally, with a staggering 16.7 million people—nearly one in three of the population—projected to face food insecurity in 2025, up sharply from previous years. Around 20 million people (about 1 in 3) require humanitarian assistance, while over 3.6 million have been internally displaced by violence, with numbers expected to rise further.
One in three children under the age of 5 is stunted due to chronic malnutrition, robbing them of their potential for healthy growth and development. Soaring inflation has quadrupled the cost of basic food baskets since 2021, making even the essentials unaffordable for millions. Amid severe funding shortages, many life-saving aid programs have been cut, leaving vulnerable families in desperate situations.
What can we do when we have the means to help? The answer is profoundly simple and powerful: Provide rice and basic food staples with unconditional love and compassion to those who are suffering the most.
In Southeast Asia, rice is more than food—it's the foundation of survival and daily life. Here in SE Asia, Jesus, known as the "Bread of Life," we lovingly call the "Rice of Life", because rice sustains families through the hardest times. Our organization has historically been able to provide a full month's worth of essential food staples—primarily rice—for a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) for approximately $100 USD. This direct support reaches the most isolated and overlooked communities, where large-scale aid struggles to penetrate due to conflict and access restrictions.
